X5105 (QRP) Operating Statistics
2019-04-01 Here are some interesting QRP operating statistics, at least I thought they were!
I had my first QSO with my five watt X5105 on August 22, 2018. Including that first one I've now had 201 QSOs (57% of all my contacts (355) since then) on 80, 40, 30 and 20 meters with it. 135 (67%) of those were with various portable antennas:
36 (18%) on my 35 ft end fed wire sloper with 35 ft counterpoise
28 (14%) on my trap 40/20 meter inverted vee
27 (13%) DIY Mag Loop
13 (6%) on my 40/30/20 link inverted vee
14 (7%) on my end fed half wave antenna in the last five days, 6 on 40 meters and 6 on 20 meters
5 (2%) on my 17 ft. wire vertical with a single 35 ft counterpoise
2 (1%) on my 17 ft fiberglass mast wound with 35 ft of wire and a single 35 ft counterpoise
In addition I've had 63 (31%) QSOs using my base station G5RV. My longest distance QSO with any of my antennas was with the G5RV, 4,446 miles to Germany. My longest distance QSO with a portable antenna was 2118 with a station in Puerto Rico using my mag loop in the middle of our living room!
Of all of the QSOs 33 (16%) were SSB contacts including the 4,446 mile one to Germany. All the rest were CW.
My point is simply that a 5 watt radio works, and with a pretty wide variety of antennas! I've been a ham since 1958 and I'm not sure I've enjoyed it any more than these last months working over half the time using QRP with my Xiegu x5105)
