July 2016 Hiking/Camping/Backpacking

KD Park, Kenosha County, WI

2016-07-18  Last Friday Sharon and I got up early and headed to KD Park in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, just a few miles from our home. It covers about 240 acres, a former query operation and has about five miles of trails. Our visit was only a couple hours. We started off with breakfast cooked on my little Fancee Feest stove and then walked the trail that encircles the lake, about 1.5 miles. The trails are mostly wide and easy to walk, obviously former roads. A few are more path-like, going through some lowlands and woods. It is a very pleasant park and from the web site considerable development of it for environmental preservation and enjoyment by visitors is planned.

I enjoy and look forward to some more "proper hikes" and backpacking in the coming months. But even just going to parks like this one and the White River Park nearby continues to increase my love of and appreciation for the natural world God has provided for 

us to enjoy. One thing is completely clear, God loves LIFE. Life in unimaginable variety. From the smallest insect to the largest and most stately trees, all represent life, a gift from God. Is it any wonder that He also offers us eternal life through Jesus' death and resurrection?!

White River Park, Walworth County, WI

2016-07-04  This morning at 6:30 Sharon and I drove over to Walworth County's newest and largest park, The White River Park to go for a little early morning hike and fix breakfast on the trail. It was a beautiful morning, about 65 degrees, calm and partly cloudy. The trails are very nice and wide and well maintained. There are benches and even picnic tables along the way, some right on the river bank. The White river is kind of an over-sized stream right now, very pretty. We were only out there a total of about an hour and a half but it was a fun time. Nice way to start off the Independence Day holiday.

I need to work on my coffee making skills a bit more but it wasn't too bad! Instant coffee may the way to go! :-)
