Day 2, Sept 3 Morning - Riverboat Cruise on the Discovery III

Discover III riverboat cruise on the Chena River. 5:55
We purchased a Princess Cruises land/sea package which began officially today. The morning activity was a three hour river cruise tour aboard the Discovery III river boat about a half hour bus ride from Fairbanks. It was one of the top highlights of the trip for us. The boat was interesting and comfortable, modern but made to look like its forerunners. The tour narrator was easy to hear and understand, funny but not ridiculous and had a good script. The sights, and demonstrations and visits along the river were interesting and "real" and you got a feel for the history of the area, the native peoples, the role of Salmon, seaplanes, sledges and sled dogs and the rivers in the opening and early days of Central Alaska. We would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Fairbanks.
