2018 Flying Season
2018-12-17 Two days ago in the midst of an unseasonably warm few December days my son Charles and I went out to our Silver Eagles RC Flying Club field to do a couple flights. I took my Apprentice and managed two flights of about ten minutes each with no negative incidents! Since I haven't flown much in the past couple years I kept it simple, doing mostly patterns around the airstrip! Charles had a glow powered plane that he also flew a couple times as well as a small electric. He too had no negative situations. It was fun. The temperature was about 45 with a mild breeze from the east and the sky was severe clear. Nice to be back in the air again!
2018-04-14 The Spring weather here in southeast Wisconsin has not/is not RC flying friendly yet! It's 36 and very windy and drippy today and has been like that off and on so far. A couple of our Silver Eagles RC Flying Club guys have gotten in a few flights on the several nice days but most of us have stayed close to the fire! But this afternoon we're taking matters into our own hands and flying in a local elementary school gym! So for most of us, indoors will be the beginning of our flying season.
The problem I faced is that thanks to the flooding of our house last July and my consequent over reaction, I threw out or gave away all of my indoor planes. It wasn't a great loss as except for my little Champ (which is questionably indoor) they all had lots of bumps and bruises and were about ready for the scrap heap anyway. So yesterday a friend and I went shopping. After checking out Hobby Town, we ended up at Walmart! I don't normally think of that as a place to buy an RC plane but we both ended up leaving some money behind and bringing home HD Video Drone+FPV quadrocopters. This is NOT a recommendation, simply a statement of fact. There is likely a reason beyond the unbelievably complicated packaging that it was on clearance! I have confirmed that it works. Whether it will fly (or whether I can fly it) and what the video will look like is yet to be determined. But I've got "something" for our indoor fly today!
