k-3833 Bald Mountain State Recreation Area

2022-08-20 Spent the weekend visiting our daughter's family in SE MI this weekend to inspect our month old fifth great grandbaby, a boy. While my wife and the girls went shopping on Friday I headed to k-3383 Bald Mountain State Recreation Area to try some POTA. Located in Oakland County it's an amazingly wild and beautiful park.

Set up my ic705 and WRC with 17' whip and 4 ten-ft radials at a shady picnic table and got my first contact, a p2p, in response to KC5F's CQ from NC at 14:59z. Then settled on 14.63Mhz and called CQ POTA. First call N2TO in MA came back. Twenty one minutes later I logged the last one, SM4BNZ in Sweden! F1Bll in France was in the log too. 17 in 30 minutes makes me happy. All CW on 20m @ 10 watts.

Next day the family went to the beach area in the same park. Rather than play in the water I found a picnic table in the shade nearby and again set up the 705 and WRC. Whether the conditions or my location were the reason, I only managed six contacts, 4 on 20 meters and 2 on 30 meters. But I did get OH1MM in Finland. Both days were fun thanks to 21 folks who heard and responded to me.
