May 2017 Backpacking/Hiking/Camping
2017-05-25 May has been a pretty chilly, rainy and windy month here in Wisconsin with not nearly enough sunshine, if you like the out-of-doors. Nevertheless we managed to get two outdoors activities done this month. The big one was a four day, three night backpacking trip to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. What a beautiful, rustic place! I can highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably challenging adventure "off the grid".
The other was a one night weekend campout in the Ottawa Lakes Campground, part of the Ottawa Lakes Recreation area in the Kettle Moraine State Forest. I hammock camped while two others camped in tents and the other four stayed in a neat ADA compliant cabin provided. The Kettle Moraine Forest and the campground in particular is a great place to visit and camp.
