2016 Hiking/Backpacking/Camping Season

2016-05-16 Hiking, backpacking and camping have become major interests of mine over the past several years. I have my son, John, to thank for that. His invitation to join him and his three daughters on a backpacking trip to Isle Royale near the Canadian shore of Lake Superior in 2013 was the beginning. To my surprise, though it was one of the hardest physical things I had ever done, for some un-explainable reason it was at the same time one of the most "fun" things I had ever done physically also.
A subsequent trip to Glacier National Park in 2015 kind of solidified my interest. This year I am not likely to do any really big trips like those but I do plan to "own" the planing and execution of several shorter, less strenuous trips here in Wisconsin either alone or with other friends or family, which is what this page is all about. And already I have discovered that the thinking, planning and getting gear are almost as much fun as the actual hike itself. |
